Humidor Construction
|
The construction of the humidor case is extremely important to insure your custom humidor will remain tight and square to maintain the integrity of the air seal. The air seal must be tight enough to prevent air infiltration so humidity can be maintained, but not so tight that it can not breath. If the humidor can not breath, this can cause the inside air to become stale or mildew to form within the case, spoiling the contents with a "musty" odor. Every Forever Furniture custom humidor is constructed from 3/4" thick solid hardwood with either mitered edges (default) or dovetail edges (customer choice). Since mitered edges are the traditional construction for humidors, but not as strong as a dovetail, we go to the extraordinary length of building both horizontal and vertical splines into the corners to make them as strong as possible. These construction techniques insure the humidor case is as dimensionally stable as possible to provide generations of enjoyment. To the right is a picture of a custom humidor under construction showing the horizontal splines that have been added along the edges. In addition, a vertical spline is installed the length of the inside of the miter joint. This combination of splines provides a "stitch" along the entire joint edge to make it as strong as possible. Below x-ray diagram 1 details the stitch splines option and diagram 2 details the dovetail edge joint construction option.
Maintaining a constant humidity within the humidor is the single most important consideration to insure your valuable cigars are able to rest and mature properly. Yet, this is precisely the problem with most larger humidors. To overcome this problem, our custom humidors are designed with Air Channel technology. Air Channel technology is an air duct that is integrated into the humidor along with one or two small fans that run constantly to force the interior air to circulate around every cigar, thus insuring even temperature and humidity within the entire chamber. Too much airflow can rob you cigars of their essential oils, but no air flow can result in significant humidity variations where some cigars can dry out while other cigars (near the humidifier) can become too moist. The ideal environmet has slow, constant air flow to balance the humidity, while not robing the essential oils of the cigar wrapper. Forever Furniture recommends that you keep the celophane wrappers on your cigars to further protect their essential oils. Diagram 3 is a side cut-away to show how the air channel is integrated into the humidor to force the air circulation within the humidor. Forever Furniture custom humidors are the only humidors on the market with this feature integrated into the design of every custom humidor we build. If you want the best for your cigars, Forever Furniture is your ONLY choice.
